Do You Know Resistance?

By Aubrey Marcus October 18, 2022

Is that draft of your story/poem/book stuck in your documents list, beckoning you to finish it, while you steadily ignore it’s pleas?

Is that business idea still in the aether, thirsty for you to water it with your sweat and see if it will grow?

Is the blank canvas of your artistic gift to Life itself still taunting you with it’s unmolested homogeneity?

Then you know Resistance. We all do. This week’s podcast guest, Steven Pressfield, was the one who named it. It is the force that acts on you whenever you dare to break out of the comfortable. He describes it below in War of Art:

“Resistance will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will perjure, fabricate, falsify, seduce, bully, cajole. Resistance is protean. It will assume any form, if that’s what it takes to deceive you. It will reason with you like a lawyer or jam a nine millimeter in your face like a stickup man. Resistance has no conscience. It will pledge anything to get a deal, then double-cross you as soon as your back is turned. If you take Resistance at its word, you deserve everything you get. Resistance is always lying and always full of shit.”

To overcome Resistance you need to have become a warrior. The one who uses this Resistance as a compass, and exclaims “steadfast and forward trembling hand, forward!”

This week’s podcast is an essential listen for anyone who doesn’t want to settle for mediocrity. For anyone with a warrior spirit. Click here to check it out.
